QUALITY CONTROL & ASSURANCE

  • Rely on industrial chain manufacturers with adequate process control measures in place to ensure a quality product.

  • Various in-process tests throughout the manufacturing process to verify and confirm that the minimum strength and quality requirements are met.

  • 100% Proof testing of all heat-treated chains, and components are performed at 2.5 times the working load limit in order to confirm the product integrity.

  • 100% visual inspection

  • Final release of product by a competent person

Grade 3 hand chain

This video illustrates tensile testing, also known as tension testing. It is a fundamental materials science and engineering test in which a sample is subjected to a controlled tension until failure.

This process is called quenching and tempering. It is used to achieve the desired mechanical properties. All chain is heated to a high temperature and then quenched in water, followed by a tempering process.

Steel chain has opposing forces at work when it is used. At every compression point, it has tensile stress opposing it. This step in this video is to ensure weld integrity and the correct final chain dimensions.

McKINNON CHAIN ACCREDITATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

What is DNV Approved Products?

DNV (Det Norske Veritas®) is one of the world’s leading certification bodies that deliver world-renowned testing, certification, and technical advisory services.

We manufacture DNV Master links and sub-assemblies ranging from 16mm to 75mm in diameter. Its working load limits range from 4.1- 100 tons, in accordance with the requirements of the DNV 2.7-1 and DNV 2.7-3 standards. In addition, we also manufacture various configurations of fully welded chain slings as per customer requirements.

ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER

There is a growing concern within the South African market regarding the supply of chain products.

McKinnon Chain has recently observed a significant increase in non-conforming Grade 3 and Grade 5 chain being sold under the pretence of being fully compliant and certified with SANS 251specification.

Alarmingly, the number of incidents involving failures of these non-compliant chains is rising rapidly.
