At McKinnon Chain, innovation isn’t just a buzzword — it’s the backbone of everything we do. From product development to world-class manufacturing, we are committed to pushing the boundaries of performance, durability, and quality. Our latest breakthroughs prove that McKinnon is not only setting the standard — we’re raising it.

Zinc-Tough™: Built to Defy Corrosion

Driven by our dedication to real-world performance, we recently launched a cutting-edge corrosion resistance project to test the limits of our renowned Zinc-Tough™ coating. This initiative included both laboratory testing (to ISO 12944-9 standards) and live trials in the extreme marine conditions of Saint Francis Bay, South Africa.

The lab tests are completed — and the results are outstanding.

Despite minor corrosion in isolated areas, the Zinc-Tough™ coating delivered exceptional performance, with the majority of surfaces fully compliant with the ISO standard for extreme environments.

Meanwhile, field-exposed link products — some in service for over four years — continue to earn praise from our customers for their excellent condition and fully legible markings,

proving once again that Zinc-Tough™ means long-term robust protection.

Advanced Robotics. Enhanced Capacity. Engineered by McKinnon Chain.

Innovation extends beyond the product — it’s in how we manufacture it.

We are proud to announce the introduction of an additional, fully robotic, link manufacturing cell, designed and developed entirely in-house. This cutting-edge cell, manufactured locally and managed by our expert project team, stands as a one-of-a-kind global innovation. The new cell is set to significantly increase our already world-class link manufacturing capacity.

On this platform, we will soon launch a redesigned Grade 8+10 Quad Assembly range, fully compliant with EN 1677 Part 4 — delivering efficient lifting solutions to meet the demands of modern industry.

Pioneering Safer, Smarter Solutions Through Research

At McKinnon Chain, we’re not just solving today’s challenges — we’re anticipating tomorrow’s. That’s why we’ve partnered with the University of Pretoria to launch a pioneering research initiative focused on optimizing the prevention of hydrogen embrittlement in safety-critical components.

Beginning in August 2025, this project will explore the specific mechanics around hydrogen introduction and movement in chain and link products. The result? A safer, more efficient process — and even more robust products for our customers.

As we reflect on 90 years of dedicated service and growth, we look forward with ambition and purpose. We are committed to building on our legacy, innovating tirelessly, and growing stronger, link by link, for the next nine decades.
