Hydrogen Embrittlement/Stress Corrosion Cracking can occur in a marine environment when favourable conditions for hydrogen formation are created within a corrosion pit. The anodic layers of ZINC-TOUGHTM TECHNOLOGY as well as the excellent inherent material properties reduce the risk of pitting and subsequent embrittlement of the steel.

ROOT CAUSES OF HYDROGEN EMBRITTLEMENT
For Hydrogen Embrittlement to take place, three elements are required: a source of hydrogen, material susceptibility and mechanical stress.

THE EVALUATION OF PROTECTIVE COATINGS ON LIFTING EQUIPMENT
The laboratory tests which were carried out in accordance with ISO 12944-9 indicated that the duplex coated zinc thermal diffused, the powder coated product and the zinc thermal diffused product can be used successfully in an offshore CX environment.
